My Favorite Buddha Shake

I want to share with you my recipe for the most delicious, nutritious and satisfying Buddha shake. The one that keeps your belly full with balanced nourishment.

 

The one with staying power.

 

Liquid meals - I’m talking about protein drinks, smoothies, juices - are extremely popular, but don’t mistake them for a meal.

 

Many recipes, whether they are made with fruits or vegetables, are very high in sugar and lack nutrient balance.

 

Honestly the sound of liquid “meal” makes me feel like I’m in the sick ward. ICK

 

Our digestive system is designed for chewing and breaking apart the food into what is needed and what will be eliminated as it goes through the system. The body wants some bulk to work on or like all of our muscles, it atrophies.

 

How can we use liquid “meals” to our benefit?

 

I NEVER miss breakfast so occasionally I drink my favorite Buddha shake for breakfast when I don’t have a strong hunger, or I use it for my light dinner especially when it is hot out.

 

Another good time of day is for a snack or before or after intense physical activity.

In our snacks, we still want all the components of nourishment with good fat, protein and complex carbohydrates so that we will have a balance of nutrients.

 

If you are feeling an afternoon slump, this drink will elevate you and you probably won’t want dinner.

 

The BEST liquid “meal” replacement, smoothie, protein drink – whatever you want to call it.

 

Recipe for my  favorite Buddha Shake

 

1 cup to 1 ½ cup Coconut or cashew milk

1 banana (not frozen or some other fruit, but banana adds the creaminess)

A few shakes of nutritional yeast

½ teaspoon of morninga or some other powdered green

A large tablespoon of almond butter

1 few shakes of cinnamon

1 couple of drips of vanilla extract (almond extract is quite yummy too.)

Optional – sometimes I put from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in the shake. It depends on how full I want to be from the shake, the outdoor temperature and how much fat has been in my diet.

 

Voila, hit the blend button and let it blend for a few seconds – easy to make, delicious to drink, filling and simple clean up.
